Games + roms NES (part 27)

1. Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball
Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball (released in Japan as Softball Tengoku) is a one- or two-player NES video game where players can select various fictional softball players and customize their own team to take to the championship.
Despite the game being a softball game, the rules are more reminiscent of baseball with the exception of each game played to a maximum of 7 innings (unless extras are needed to break a tie). Players can choose to play either "fast pitch" or "slow pitch" and assemble their teams from 60 characters some of whom with noticeable trademarks. for instance:
Diablo: looks like the devil bats with a club but runs very slowly. Zelda: looks like a witch bats with a mop. Mike: skips as he runs Binky: Has the ability to float while playing defense.
The game features 6 different "arenas" to play each with their own features and ground rules:
Sandlot: Based on a traditional sandlot the field has areas with high grass and rocks with can interfere with a live play. To hit a home run the player only has to hit a ball over the "home run line" not beyond the fence. Park: the area beyond the home run line has several park benches are trash cans with can interfere with the play. Cliff: The smallest field. any ball that rolls under the picket fence in right field is a ground rule double. School: Based on a schoolyard. a home run is scored if a ball goes over the home run line, but if it breaks a window on the school's building it's an automatic out. Island: similar to a professional field, there are 2 small lakes in foul territory which are out of play. Professional (in 2-player mode only): standard field.
Players may also choose their team name from a list of 25 names each from a different letter of the alphabet (I does not have a team):
The game also features a mercy rule, with the game ending if someone leads by 10 or more runs after an entire inning is played.

2. Dynamite Bowl
Dynamite Bowl (ダイナマイトボウル Dainamaito Bōru) is a 1987 multiplatform video game that simulates the traditional game of bowling. The MSX version was released for both the MSX-1 and the MSX-2 variations of the console.
The general concept is that up to five players can play on any of the 30 bowling lanes available; simulating the concept of being in a bowling league. Players can change their lane positioning, determine how strong the throw is, and even make the ball go through various curves (or even through a straight ball into the pins). Each player character can be either male or female with options for bowling ball weights ranging from 7 pounds or 3.2 kilograms to 15 pounds or 6.8 kilograms.

4. Earth Worm Jim 2
Earthworm Jim 2 (蚯蚓吉姆2, Qiūyǐn Jímǔ 2) is a port of the Mega Drive game of the same name, made by Super Game for the Famicom, sometime in 1997. It is considerably a fair pirate like Shin-Shin's game, but unlike that version, it lacks the whip.

5. Earthbound
EarthBound, known as Mother 2 in Japan, is a 1994 Japanese role-playing video game co-developed by Ape Inc. and HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game console. As Ness and his party of four, the player travels the world to collect melodies en route to defeating the evil alien force Giygas. It is the second game of the Mother series, and the only one to be released in the English language until its predecessor was released under the name EarthBound Beginnings in 2015 as part of Wii U's Virtual Console. EarthBound released in Japan in August 1994, and in North America the next June.
The game had a lengthy development period that spanned five years. Its making involved a number of Japanese luminaries, including writer Shigesato Itoi, musician/songwriter Keiichi Suzuki, sound designer Hirokazu Tanaka, and future Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. Themed around an idiosyncratic portrayal of Americana and Western culture, it subverted popular role-playing game traditions by featuring a real world setting while parodying numerous staples of the genre. Itoi, who directed the game, wanted it to reach non-gamers with its intentionally goofy tone. Upon release, it was heavily marketed with a promotional campaign that sardonically proclaimed "this game stinks".

7. Eggland - Meikyuu no Fukkatsu
The Eggerland (エッガーランド) series consists of several puzzle games developed by HAL Laboratory. Its first release was in 1985 for MSX computer systems. Many titles were made in the series and the gameplay is almost exactly the same in every game as well. Only a few changes were made over the years (mainly graphical).
The hero of most games is Lolo, a blue, spherical character with eyes, arms, and legs. The story mainly deals with King Egger, the villain, capturing princess Lala, who is similar to Lolo, only colored pink or red, and wearing a bow. Lolo must rescue Lala by travelling through Egger's domain and solving the puzzle rooms laid out before him.

9. Elevator Action
Elevator Action (エレベーターアクション Erebētā Akushon) is a 1983 arcade game by Taito Corporation.[1] It has a mix of the action, platformer, puzzle and shooter genres.
The player assumes the role of a spy infiltrating a 30-story building filled with elevators. The player is pursued by enemy agents who appear from behind closed doors. These agents must be dealt with via force or evasion. Successful completion of a level involves collecting all the secret documents and traversing the building from top to bottom. In the lower floors of the building, the elevator systems can be complex enough that puzzle-solving skills are needed. The controls consist of a four-way joystick and two buttons, one to shoot and the other for jumping and kicking.
Elevator Action was followed by the arcade game Elevator Action Returns in 1994 (released as Elevator Action II in North America) and Elevator Action EX for the Game Boy in 2000.

11. Elite
Elite is a space trading video game, written and developed by David Braben and Ian Bell and originally published by Acornsoft for the BBC Micro and Acorn Electron computers in September 1984. Elite's open-ended game model, and revolutionary 3D graphics led to it being ported to virtually every contemporary home computer system, and earned it a place as a classic and a genre maker in gaming history. The game's title derives from one of the player's goals of raising their combat rating to the exalted heights of "Elite".
Elite was one of the first home computer games to use wire-frame 3D graphics with hidden line removal. It added graphics and twitch gameplay aspects to the genre established by the 1974 game Star Trader. Another novelty was the inclusion of The Dark Wheel, a novella by Robert Holdstock which gave players insight into the moral and legal codes to which they might aspire.
The game was followed by the sequels Frontier: Elite II in 1993, and Frontier: First Encounters in 1995, which introduced Newtonian physics, realistic star systems and seamless freeform planetary landings. A third sequel, Elite: Dangerous, began crowdfunding in 2012 and was launched on 16 December 2014, following a period of semi-open testing.

12. Elysion
Elysion (エリュシオン?) is an action-oriented RPG originally developed by System Soft for the NEC PC-9801 line of Japanese home computers and published in 1986. Tokyo Shoseki then converted the game for play on the Famicom, and published it in 1988. The game was only released in Japan, but an English patch has been released for the Famicom version, which can be found here.
At the start of the game, you must choose from one of four races. Each race has different statistics which gives them different degrees of physical and magical power. After you make your selection, you begin the game in a castle on the west portion of a diamond shaped continent. Throughout the continent are caves which lead to different regions of the world. Your goal is to collect a number of scrolls that reveal the method of defeating a great evil that is menacing the world. Along the way, you'll have to explore different places in order to find items required for your quest, and powerful items that enable you to defeat stronger enemies along the way.

14. Erika to Satoru no Yume Bouken
Erika to Satoru no Yume Bōken (えりかとさとるの夢冒険, lit. "Erika and Satoru's Dream Adventure") is a 1988 Japan-exclusive adventure video game for the Family Computer. The setting of this game is 20th century Japan.

Two-player adventure games were seen as very rare at the time of the game's release; even in Japan. However, only one person could partake in the animal quiz portion. Failing the quiz will force the player to start from the beginning.
It is one of the few games for the Family Computer to use the Namco 163 wavetable sound chip, and is also one of the games that enables all eight sound channels provided by the chip, the other being King of Kings.
The end of the game contains an easter egg in the form of a developer's lengthy profane complaint about his coworkers' behaviour, which can be triggered at the game's ending after a series of button presses.

It is the third installment in the Dragon Quest series (known as Dragon Warrior in North America at the time of its original release) and was first released for the Family Computer (Famicom) in Japan and later for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in North America. The game saw an enhanced remake for the Super Famicom (the Japanese version of the Super NES) in 1996 and the Game Boy Color in 2001, and a port to mobile phones and the Wii in 2009 and 2011. A version of the game for Android and iOS was released in Japan on September 25, 2014, and worldwide as Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation on December 4, 2014. It was the first time the game was given an official English subtitle.
The first three Dragon Quest games are part of the same story, and Dragon Warrior III is the first game chronologically, as well as the third game that features the hero Erdrick (Loto in the Japanese releases and subsequent localizations). The story follows "the Hero" who is tasked with saving the world from the archfiend Baramos. Gathering a group of companions into a party, the Hero must travel the world, stopping at various towns and locations, and find his way to the Demon Lord Baramos's lair.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen is a role-playing video game and the fourth installment of the Dragon Quest video game series developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix (now Square Enix). It was originally released for the Famicom on 11 February 1990 in Japan. A North American version followed in October 1992, and would be the last Dragon Quest game localized and published by Enix's Enix America Corporation subsidiary prior to its closure in November 1995, as well as the last Dragon Quest game to be localized into English prior to the localization of Dragon Warrior Monsters in December 1999. The game was remade by Heartbeat for the PlayStation, which eventually was available as an Ultimate Hits title. This was followed with a second remake developed by ArtePiazza for the Nintendo DS, released in Japan on 22 November 2007. This remake was released in Australia on 11 September 2008, in Europe on 12 September 2008 and in North America on September 16, 2008. A version based on the Nintendo DS remake for Android and iOS was released in 2014.
Dragon Quest IV differs from the rest of the series by breaking up the game into five distinct chapters, each of which focuses on a different protagonist or protagonists. The first four are told from the perspective of the Hero's future companions and the fifth one, from the hero's perspective, brings all the characters together as they start their journey to save the world. The PlayStation remake adds a sixth chapter, which is retained in the DS remake.

Duck Hunt (Japanese: ダックハント Hepburn: Dakku Hanto) is a light gun shooter video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) video game console. First released in Japan on April 21, 1984, it was later released on October 18, 1985 in North America as a launch game for the NES, and on August 15, 1987 in Europe. The game was released as a Virtual Console title for the Wii U in 2014.
In Duck Hunt, players use the NES Zapper to shoot ducks that appear on the television screen. The ducks appear one or two at a time, and the player is given three shots to shoot them down. The player receives points upon shooting each duck. If the player shoots the required number of ducks in a single round, the player will advance to the next round; otherwise, the player will receive a game over.

Prior to the NES version, Nintendo also made a Duck Hunt game based on Laser Clay Shooting System released in 1976. 13. Dudes With Attitude
Dudes with Attitudes... The classic game that was one of the many gems found on the Maxivision 15-in-1 cart Volume 1. Well, maybe it wasn't classic. Or a gem. Or very good. But, it was still a game. If you've ever played any of those American Video Entertainment games (found in bulk on the Maxi 15) you'd know they have a penchant for the weird games. This fits right in. You're a face, bouncing around the screen trying to avoid such dangerous hazards like water, gum, and snakes, while trying to clear out all the gems in the stage. There are ways to avoid getting killed by the gum and other equally perilous obstacles, though. I'll get to that later.
There are two main modes to the game; there's a 1/2 player mode where you go through the stages and eventually win, and there's an edit mode where you can create your own stages for you or your friends to play. The edit mode isn't really too special though. I mean, you can use anything in the game to set up your stage, but you can only save four and they erase upon turning off the system. Anyway, time for a closer look at the specifics.
